Strengthening Whanaungatanga Through Smart Relief Staffing

Haeata Community Campus is a composite school located in East Christchurch, serving students from Years 1 to 13. With a roll of approximately 560, the kura maintains strong ties to its local community and places a deep emphasis on Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori across all levels of learning.

Despite having a large pool of relievers available, Haeata prioritises building meaningful relationships with those whose teaching practice aligns with the school’s values of whanaungatanga – connection, belonging, and mutual respect. Ensuring consistency and familiarity for ākonga is a key part of their approach to relief staffing.

Since becoming a StaffSync client in 2018, Haeata has used the platform to manage relief staffing across all year levels. The system enables the kura to maintain a close-knit group of regular relievers who are familiar with the school’s culture and students, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging and continuity in the classroom.

In 2024, Haeata Community Campus successfully filled 92% of all jobs published through StaffSync, with the majority of these at the secondary level. The kura consistently draws on a familiar group of relievers, which supports tamariki wellbeing and strengthens learning outcomes through continuity and trusted relationships. StaffSync also enables efficient coordination of relief staffing across the full spectrum of year levels, from Year 1 to Year 13, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations throughout the school.

StaffSync has become a vital part of Haeata Community Campus’s operations, supporting their commitment to culturally responsive practice and strong community relationships. The platform’s flexibility and ease of use allow the kura to uphold its values while managing relief staffing efficiently and effectively.
